This is a 26 weeks (approximately 6 months), non-renewable position.
JOB TITLE: Campus-Community Social Justice Research  Coordinator
JOB DESCRIPTION: The Campus-Community Social Justice Research Coordinator will generally support and promote QPIRG Concordia core projects and initiatives related to community-driven social justice research. This includes outreach, promotion and logistical support for the Study In Action undergraduate and community research conference, as well as being responsible for the publication of the Convergence Undergraduate and Community Research Journal. More generally, the Campus-Community Social Justice Research Coordinator will work with QPIRG Concordia staff with outreach and staffing of the QPIRG Concordia space.
JOB DUTIES
– support for the logistics of the Study In Action conference
– coordinate, develop and implement outreach strategy to promote the Study In Action conference and the Convergence journal
– soliciting content for the Convergence journal
– helping to finalize the content for Convergence

– outreach actively to Concordia students and campus community to promote community-driven social justice research

– outreach to community organizations
– work with QPIRG staff to design, print and distribute outreach materials (flyers, posters, translated materials, etc.)
– work with professors, departments and student groups to promote social justice research amongst faculty and university bodies
– work with volunteer committee and QPIRG staff to develop and implement outreach strategies for promoting social justice research
– apply to various campus departments for project funding and outreach support
– recruit and work with volunteers and volunteer committee members
– promote QPIRG’s social and environmental justice mandate
– maintain and improve the Study In Action and Convergence websites
– promote community-driven social justice research on campus and in the Montreal-area community thru workshops and community events
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED
– excellent written and oral communication skills in English, and excellent communication skills in French
– excellent knowledge of the Concordia University community, including student organizations
– knowledgeable of Concordia campus environment, including campus organizations and departments
– excellent computer skills (word processing, google documents, databases, etc)
– experience with community-driven action research, popular education, participatory research and/or other social justice alternative research methods
– web skills (wordpress)
– ability to work both independently and collectively
– knowledgeable about Montreal community organizations and social justice groups
– ability to communicate with people of diverse backgrounds
– comfortable with public speaking
– skills in volunteer recruitment, retention and coordination
– proven organizational and time management skills
– ability to take initiative and work independently
– creative problem-solving skills
– commitment to social justice and to QPIRG’s mandate to counter discrimination on the basis of age, sex, gender, religion, colour, disability, size and class
ASSETS
– excellent written French
– skills in poster/flyer design and printing (Indesign and/or Photoshop)
– budgeting and financial management experience
– volunteer experience and/or working within a volunteer organization
– knowledge of other languages, including sign languages
– skills in facilitation, meeting planning and coordination
– knowledge of consensus decision-making
– experience with non-profit organizations, including working with boards and the incorporation process

Please note that QPIRG Concordia is located in a wheelchair accessible office. There is a wheelchair access ramp at the front of the building, with two 40″ non-automated doors in the front. The office is located on the second floor, accessed with an elevator.  The doors to the office and the washroom are non-automated and 30″ and 33” wide respectively. There is one wheelchair accessible washroom located in the women’s washroom. QPIRG Concordia is also a scent-free and chemical-free space.
