An introduction to poster, flyer and ‘zine layout using Quark X-press – a popular and easy-to-use desktop publishing software. No experience required! Bring your own projects and images to work on if you like.

“Popular Theatre and You” - March 1st, 6-9pm @ QPIRG Concordia


Popular theatre is comprised of many forms of theatre practice which share core values of democratic participation, collective conscientization, andmobilization towards progressive cultural, social, and political change. Drawing on an intersectoral analysis, we will explore how popular theatre can be used to identify and represent the relationship between intimate and structural oppression.

Workshop presented by Nisha Sajnani – Director of “Creative Alternatives” (creativealternatives.org); Coordinator of the “Creating Safer Spaces” program at the South Asian Women's Community Center (SAWCC); Coordinator of the “Rights Here! Project” addressing structural inequities faced by Park Extension youth.

Dionne Brand, one of Canada’s most celebrated writers, will be reading and speaking about her experiences of using writing as a tool for social and political empowerment and inspiration, and to oppose patterns of injustice and oppression.

Co-presented by the 2110 Centre and the Simone de Beauvoir Institute
