What is Study in Action?
Study in Action is an undergraduate student conference seeking to foster ties between undergraduate students and the broader Montreal community in order to strengthen the spirit of social justice and promote undergraduate research.
With the hope of energizing both communities in question, the conference also seeks to create concrete links between community issues and undergraduate work by providing research and volunteer bases for community organizations to call upon.
The project was born out of the desire to fill the institutional gaps that have traditionally minimized the visibility of undergraduate work and maintained a separation between the academy and grassroots organizing. We realize that there is often a need for undergraduate work to be significant beyond meeting class requirements. With this in mind, Study in Action is an attempt to offer students a concrete link to social justice organizing and provide that missing dimension of academia that allows undergrads to network with relevant players in the community.
What the organizing committee does:
- develop the theme of the conference
- book a keynote speaker
- jury abstracts of academic submissions
- select and invite community groups
- fundraise
- organize logistics
Who is QPIRG?
QPIRG Concordia is a student funded, non-profit organization that strives to raise awareness and motivate grassroots activism around diverse social and environmental issues. We seek to make campus-community links and inspire social change through engaging, inclusive and non-hierarchical approaches. QPIRG is a resource centre for student and community activism that is independent from the Concordia administration and student union.
