Community Needs Analysis - Walkley Community Center

Organization:
Walkley Community Center

Walkley Community Center is a non-profit organization serving the community where it is located. The Center runs under the leadership of the Provisionary Administrative Council comprising of Ville de Montreal, Prevention NDG and Comite Jeunesse NDG. Walkley Community Center has been providing programs for children, teens and adults.

Research description:

A needs assessment concerning the Walkley Street and neighboring streets is being planned. Residents of the community will be visited in their homes and will be asked to respond to a series of questions which will help us to formulate programs and activities that will benefit the community at large. Residents will be asked what kind of activities they would like to see at the center based on the current space. This will be a door-to-door questionnaire campaign.

The research student will be provided with a questionnaire (attached separately) and they are required to obtain responses from the residents by asking the questions verbally. The responses should be recorded on the questionnaire.

The results of the needs analysis will provide us with information on the proportion of residents based on age group, interests, their role in the community and suggestions on how they would like to be involved in the activities of the Walkley Community Center. The above information will be processed and programming for the Center's activities will be based on the results drawn from the analysis. It will result in the efficient usage of space in the Center and the community being benefitted at large.

As a Community organization, we are always looking to engage young minds in ways that will not only benefit the organization but also help them gain practical insight on various community issues.

The needs analysis will help the research student comprehend the vast variety of needs in the community they live in. This research opportunity will help them identify areas of contribution and also motivate them to find opportunities to meet the various needs by being innovative in their thinking and ideas.

We value the treasure house of knowledge that is available in the young community and are happy to have them contribute their time and skills. We also believe in building good relationships with researchers to keep the doors open for other potential opportunities that will match their interests.
