Project description: W.O.R.D. is looking for a student to help us bring our programming to the next level. We are always in the process of revamping our curriculum to keep it fresh and relevant to changing climates and specific participant needs. Your role and research plan would include the following, divided into three main parts:
1st Part – September to December
- To orient yourself with W.O.R.D.’s programming mandate and content;
- To research the literacy standards of the Quebec education system and incorporate lesson plans into the curriculum that reflect these findings.
2nd Part – January to March
- To act as the primary W.O.R.D. instructor for the winter program run;
- To undertake ongoing curriculum development throughout the program run;
- To complete participant evaluations.
3rd Part - April
In the final month of the project, you will be required to present a final report that will answer the following questions:
- Describe the successes and challenges of your curriculum development and program instruction experience. What worked well? What didn’t? Why?
- What is W.O.R.D.’s position in the Quebec educational system?
- How do you see the W.O.R.D. curriculum evolving moving forward? What impact will this have on the program?

About the organization: W.O.R.D. (Writing Our Rhymes Down) is a youth-led literacy program working with inner-city youth in Montreal. WORD uses positive hip hop music and culture to educate, engage and empower youth through literacy, critical thinking and self-esteem development.
