Project Description:

The Montreal Media Co-op is looking for a student, preferably in Journalism or Communications, to undertake a research and writing project for the upcoming semester. The student would be expected to work with members of the MMC is researching one or several topics through various means, including Access to Information Requests, archival research and interviews. While familiarity with journalistic research methods is a plus, training will be provided to the student as well.

The research will revolve around a clear topic with the goal of publishing at least one in-depth investigative piece. The topic will be defined based on the needs identified by the MMC and take into account the student's research interests. Possible topics include: Housing and homelessness Poverty rates/anti-poverty programs Environmental initiatives on Montreal island Police brutality/killings and accountability Women, queer and trans- issues in Montreal Race and racism in Montreal.

Fundraising Superviser: N.D.G. Youth of Colour, Environmental Internship in Senegal - Root.Ed

Root.ED is sending 8 urban youth of colour on an environmental internship in Senegal for two months during the summer of 2011 (mid June to mid August).

Root.ED would like to have 1 or 2 Promo/Fundraising Coordinators that will assist the interns in 1)promoting the project and 2) reaching their fundraising goal of $12 000.  The coordinator will have to do research and report on how best to solicit funds for the interns and compile a list of contacts, donors, partners etc... so that the interns (and future interns ) can have a solid foundation for their fundraising endeavours.

Internship: Jobra Centre

The Jobra Centre is looking for a student intern, preferably in the field of social work, community/economic development, or sociology, to carry out day-to-day tasks in their two locations in the Parc Extention neighborhood of Montreal. The intern would maintain regular office hours, coordinate the membership, and assist with the launching of a new laundry cooperative in the area.

Skills required: Familiarity with migrant communities in Montreal, background knowledge in community/economic development, having a second or third language is an asset (French, Spanish, Bengali, Tamil, Arabic, etc.).

About the organization: The Jobra Centre is a poverty relief centre located in the diverse neighborhood of Parc Extention. It’s mission is to promote social entrepreneurship, self-employment, and to empower unemployed immigrant communities. Furthermore, the Jobra Centre strives to relieve poverty through micro-credit tools that facilitate participation in income generating activities.
