A Study on Social Marketing in the Publishing Industry: The Case of the Small Press

Organization:
Black Rose Books

Project Description:

Black Rose Books would like to commission a study (10-15 page document) on the use and impact of social marketing platforms such as facebook and twitter in the Canadian publishing industry, and particularly for the small press. We would also like a guide to best practices that could be implemented. We would use the study to help create a marketing strategy using social media, allowing us to get our ideas out to a larger audience.  It empowers small presses with the tools required to compete in an increasingly concentrated publishing industry.

This project has the possibility to be broken down in the following ways:

Homelessness and Food Security around Concordia

Organization:
The People's Potato

Project Description:

Food security around the Concordia community is a big part of the People's Potato mandate. Even though our daily lunch servings at our soup kitchen are open to anyone (not only students but also members of the community), the homeless do not always have access to the university. Last year we attempted to address this by offering sandwiches 2 times a week outside between Guy and Atwater metros. Since we are not specialized in feeding the homeless, we are re-evaluating how effective our street serving initiative has been and whether we can be more efficient by supporting (through resources) other groups which specialize in tackling hunger on the streets. Homelessness remains an issue around Concordia and still needs to be addressed.

Indigene Community Semantic Wiki Web Media Project - Sustainable Development Corporation

Organization:
Sustainable Development Corporation

Research Description:

The Tiohtiake Tsi Tetsionitiotiakon Sustainability Rooted in Heritage placename mapping project will involve First Nation heritage contributions by some 50,000 individuals in the greater Montreal region who identify themselves as First Nation.  We are contributing to a compilation which has been avoided by colonial regimes for some 450 years.  We are all indigenous peoples originally from every place on earth but have been alienated from the sustainable gifts of this heritage by exogenous colonial aggression.

A Semantic Wiki-Web Media approach will allow for participant interactivity and collaboration on developing and implementing sustainable 'indigenous' (Latin = 'self-generating') livelihood, welcome and abundance for the population of the whole region.
