QPIRG Concordia is hiring an Assistant Resource and Space Coordinator!!

The Quebec Public Interest Research Group at Concordia is a resource centre for student and community research and organizing. We strive to raise awareness and support grassroots activism around diverse social and environmental issues. Our work is rooted in anti-oppression analysis and practice. We seek to make campus-community links and inspire social change through engaging, inclusive and non-hierarchical approaches.

DATES: Summer (June – Sept 2024)

WAGES: Contract will pay  $4,760 over 8 weeks.

This position is funded by Canada Summer Jobs and has certain eligibility requirements:

– be between the ages of 15 and 30 (at start of employment)
– be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act
– have a valid Social Insurance Number

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Assistant Resource and Space Coordinator will work in collaboration with QPIRG staff and volunteers. The main tasks of the position include organizing resources and the space for our 45 working groups and many space users.

Description of tasks:

Banner Library

  • gather all the banners in the space and make a call out to the community for banners to be donated to the banner library and/or get permission from working groups to add their banners to the library
  • iron and photograph them
  • organize them according to issues
  • upload the pictures to our library and/or archive catalogue so they can be checked out and returned
  • work in collaboration with the archive and library coordinator
  • Come up with a system for caring for the banners and archiving/throwing them away when needed
  • Come up with a simple and smooth process for adding new banner donations to the library
  • Promote the banner library offline and on social media

Audio and Visual Equipment

  • Make sure inventory is up to date and well labelled

General

  • Do an inventory of all the boxes of resources in the space and materials that have not been put away
  • Come up with a system to make the resources easily accessible and organized in a way that is simple to upkeep
  • Donate or dispose of resources that are no longer useful or working
  • Go through the boxes that each working group keeps in the space
  • Contact each groups using the storage area to determine what is needed and what can be disposed of or archived

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

– Sense of initiative and ability to work autonomously
– Ability to work alone as well as in a group
– Ability to communicate with people of diverse backgrounds
– Demonstrated skills in organization and time management
– Skills in the recruitment, retention, and coordination of
– Written and verbal communication skills in English and French
– Creative problem-solving skills
– Comfort with computers in Mac and PC environments
– Commitment to social justice and to QPIRG’s mandate to counter discrimination on the basis of age, race, sex, gender, religion, colour, dis/ability, size, and class

ASSETS

– Knowledge of the Concordia community, including student groups
– Volunteer experience and/or working within a volunteer organization
