VIGIL IN MEMORY OF FREDY
“Fredy lives in our hearts!”
6PM Gathering at the corner Pascal and Rolland

Almost three years ago, Fredy Villanueva was shot to death by Officer Jean-Loup Lapointe, in Montreal-North.
Three years later, the Villanueva family still waits for the truth about the police operation that cost Fredy his life on August 9, 2008.
Coroner André Perreault, who presided over a long inquest into the causes and circumstances surrounding Fredy Villanueva’s death, is not able to render a decision because Officer Lapointe’s union and employer are engaging in dilatory procedures at the Superior court.
Three years later, Fredy Villanueva’s parents are confronted by the painful prospect of loosing the only son that remains alive, Dany.
Dany Villanueva, Fredy’s older brother, is struggling to squash a removal order that would deport him to Honduras, where his life is seriously threatened. The fight to stop Dany’s deportation complicates the struggle to find out the truth about Fredy’s death.
Three years later, Quebec society is still reeling from the fatal shooting on August 9, 2008, and the ensuing riots that took over the streets of Montreal-North the next day.
These events exposed the deep-rooted problems that have been ignored far too long, highlighting the problem of police investigating police, racial profiling and the wide-spread poverty of Montreal-North.
Three years later, the struggle is far from over…
For these reasons, we invite you to show your support at the third annual commemorative march and vigil in honour and memory of Fredy Villanueva.
**A joint call from the Dany Villanueva Support Committee made up of members from the Coalition against Police Repression and Abuse, Montréal-Nord Républik, No One is Illegal-Montreal, and Solidarity Across Borders**
