PROPOSED AMENDMENT TO QPIRG’s CONSTITUTION

Article to amend (Full constitution):

4) B. Eligibility

1. Student membership is available through, and begins upon payment of fees to QPIRG Concordia.

2. Anyone who is not a student member is eligible for community membership. Community membership is available through either the completion of ten (10) or more volunteer hours for QPIRG Concordia within twelve (12) months or payment of an annual membership fee of ten (10) dollars. Membership fees must be paid or volunteer hours must be completed prior to the Annual General Meeting.

3. A member who receives a fee refund ceases to be a member of QPIRG Concordia.

Proposed amendment:

Strike the highlighted section and replace with one of the following options [Vote by ranked ballot]:

Option A (essentially how things currently stand):

  • Community membership is available through the completion of ten (10) or more volunteer hours for QPIRG Concordia or any of its current working groups or solidarity groups within twelve (12) months.

Option B (any working group member is automatically a QPIRG member):

  • Community membership is available through either the completion of ten (10) or more volunteer hours for QPIRG Concordia within twelve (12) months or the completion of the membership requirements of a current QPIRG-Concordia working group or solidarity group and appearance on their membership list as submitted to QPIRG-Concordia.

Option C (strict interpretation of the current wording – only volunteering for QPIRG counts):

  • Community membership is available through either the completion of ten (10) or more volunteer hours for QPIRG Concordia within twelve (12) months. This does not include hours volunteered for a working group or solidarity group, however members of Working Groups or Solidarity Groups are automatically granted speaking rights at general assemblies.
Note that membership in Working Groups is defined by each working group, and does not automatically confer membership in QPIRG-Concordia.

Option D (like C, but work directly tied to fulfilling WG obligations to QPIRG also counts):

Community membership is available through either the completion of ten (10) or more volunteer hours for QPIRG Concordia within twelve (12) months. This does not include hours volunteered for a working group or solidarity group, except in the case of work required for the completion of the Reciprocity Agreement (such as attendance at mandatory Working Group events, preparation of paperwork for QPIRG, participation in and preparation for co-sponsored events, etc.)
Note that membership in Working Groups is defined by each working group, and does not automatically confer membership in QPIRG-Concordia.
