ILLEGAL ASSEMBLY?
A Guided Tour of Symbolic Sites of Political Repression in Montreal
Sunday, January 16th at 2pm
Berri Square (corner Berri and Ste. Catherine, Berri-UQAM metro)
FREE! Warm drinks will be served on-site.
In the lead-up to the Popular Forum on Countering the National Security Agenda, the People’s Commission Network invites you to a guided tour of symbolic sites of political repression in Montreal. Come discover a sordid and little-known side of the city: its history of mass arrests during demonstrations.
Be it the 108 arrests that followed the “Commando Bouffe” action at the Queen Elizabeth hotel or the 371 people arrested on March 15th, 2002, these events all have one thing in common: the majority of charges resulted in acquittals.
Facilitated by arrestees themselves, the walking tour will also provide an opportunity to reflect on the broader scope of political repression in general and on the means by which to resist it.
