QPIRG Concordia is hiring an Outreach Coordinator!!

This position is a work-study position and is open to Concordia students approved for work-study and paying Quebec tuition

The Quebec Public Interest Research Group at Concordia (QPIRG Concordia) is a social justice centre that aims to connect the campus to grassroots community struggles. We support over 30 activist groups working on issues including migrant justice, LGBTQIA2S+ issues, prison justice, disability and accessibility, anti-facism and more! We host popular education events, including an alternative orientation series in September, an anti-colonial series, ASL 101 courses and more!  We have a lending library with hundreds of radical titles (alternativelibraries.org). We publish an annual agenda and resource guide called School Schmool. We offer monthly discretionary project funding, up to $700. We also have a lounge area used for community events, have public access computers and offer free black & white printing!

DATES: Winter Semester (January – April 2024)

STARTING DATE: January 8th 2024
HOURS: Flexible part-time hours, 2-3 days a week. 120 total contract hours
WAGES: $27.04/hr

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Work with QPIRG staff and volunteers to create and implement outreach strategy for QPIRG’s projects, events, and working groups

– Postering and flyering (on and off campus) for QPIRG projects and events
– Keeping track of outreach materials and helping to update those materials which are out-of-date
– Updating QPIRG’s website and social media accounts
– Tabling on campus to promote QPIRG
– Applying to various campus departments for project funding and outreach support
– Promoting QPIRG’s social and environmental justice mandate
– Submit a final report detailing work completed to the board of directors at the end of the contract

Skills Required:

– ability to work independently and with groups
– ability to communicate with people of diverse backgrounds
– proven organizational and time management skills
– ability to take initiative and work independently
– very good written and oral communication skills in English and French (asset)
– creative problem-solving skills
– experience with and working knowledge of WordPress and Canva or other design softwares
– knowledge of the local social justice initiatives
– commitment to social justice and to QPIRG’s mandate

Assets:

– knowledge of the Concordia University campus and community
– volunteering experience and/or working within a volunteer organization
– knowledge of other languages, including sign language
