QPIRG Concordia is hiring a Finance Assistant!!

No finance experience required. This is a great opportunity to learn about non-profit finances and administration!

This position is a work-study position and is open to Concordia students approved for work-study and paying Out-of-Province tuition

The Quebec Public Interest Research Group at Concordia (QPIRG Concordia) is a social justice centre that aims to connect the campus to grassroots community struggles. We support over 30 activist groups working on issues including migrant justice, LGBTQIA2S+ issues, prison justice, disability and accessibility, anti-facism and more! We host popular education events, including an alternative orientation series in September, an anti-colonial series, ASL 101 courses and more!  We have a lending library with hundreds of radical titles (alternativelibraries.org). We publish an annual agenda and resource guide called School Schmool. We offer monthly discretionary project funding, up to $700. We also have a lounge area used for community events, have public access computers and offer free black & white printing!

DATES: Winter Semester (January – April 2024)

STARTING DATE: January 8th 2024

HOURS: Flexible part-time hours, 2-3 days a week. 120 total contract hours

WAGES: $27.04/hr

JOB DESCRIPTION:

-This position will work closely with QPIRG’s finance coordinator
-Assist with organizing and filing QPIRG’s financial documents
-Helping prepare files for QPIRG’s bookkeeper
-Helping prepare files for QPIRG’s annual audit
-Helping the finance coordinator with grant applications
-Helping the finance coordinator prepare for the mid-year budget review and do budget adjustments

Knowledge Required:
– proven organizational skill and good attention to detail
– ability to take initiative and work independently
– very good written and oral communication skills in English and French (asset)
– creative problem-solving skills
– commitment to social justice and to QPIRG’s mandate
– an interest and willingness to learn about non-profit finances

Assets:
-experience with budgets and finances
-experience in non-profits or volunteer run organizations
