JOB DESCRIPTION:
The DisOrientation Coordinator will work in collaboration with QPIRG staff and volunteers. The main tasks of the position include planning, organizing, and promoting QPIRG’s alternative orientation program.
DisOrientation is a free alternative orientation at the Concordia University downtown campus for new and returning students, members of the campus & the community. In the past, DisOrientation has included a wide range of activities for all interests, including introductory workshops on social and environmental justice, readings, film screenings, music, a comedy show, a radical history bike tour and more!

STARTING DATE: June 20th, 2023
HOURS: Flexible hours, events will take place in September
WAGES: Contract will pay approximately $4,000. Please contact us for hours.
ELIGIBILITY: This position is funded by Canada Summer Jobs and has certain eligibility requirements:
- be between the ages of 16 and 30
- be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act
- have a valid Social Insurance Number
DESCRIPTION OF TASKS:
- Work with QPIRG staff and volunteers to plan the program for DisOrientation
- Recruit and train volunteers for the DisOrientation programming committee
- Work with QPIRG staff to create, print, and distribute promotional materials (flyers, posters, etc.)
- Manage the logistical aspects of the DisOrientation program such as venue booking, schedule of activities, etc.
- Submit a final report to QPIRG’s Board of Directors at the end of the contract detailing work completed
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
- Sense of initiative and ability to work autonomously
- Ability to work alone as well as in a group
- Ability to communicate with people of diverse backgrounds
- Demonstrated skills in organization and time management
- Skills in the recruitment, retention, and coordination of volunteers
- Written and verbal communication skills in English and French
- Creative problem-solving skills
- Comfort with computers in Mac and PC environments
- Fundraising skills
- Commitment to social justice and to QPIRG’s mandate to counter discrimination on the basis of age, race, sex, gender, religion, colour, dis/ability, size, and class
ASSETS:
- Skills in design and layout of posters and flyers (InDesign and/or Photoshop)
- Knowledge of the Concordia community, including student groups
- Volunteer experience and/or working within a volunteer organization
- Knowledge of other languages, including signed languages
