Proposed Amendments to Constitution

Notice to Members – Proposed Amendments to Constitution

Subject:

Proposed amendments to the QPIRG Concordia Constitution – Removal of Article 5: Election and Referendum Procedures > B. Election Procedures: The Conflict Resolution and Complaints Committee

Introduction:

The Board has moved that the section Article 5: Election and Referendum Procedures > B. Election Procedures: The Conflict Resolution and Complaints Committee be removed from the constitution and Article 6: Board be amended.

The proposed amendments were adopted by the Board on October 12th, 2023, and will be put before the members for confirmation at the Annual General Meeting (AGM), which will be held via webcast on November 15th, 2023.

Summary

The removal of Article 5: Election and Referendum Procedures > B. Election Procedures: The Conflict Resolution and Complaints Committee is due to redundancy. Following years without following this policy, we have determined that it is obsolete. Current practice is if there is a need for conflict resolution that goes beyond the staff, the board of directors is sufficient. In the future, QPIRG C would like to commit to creating better policy regarding conflict resolution. Additional time is needed to research and create this new policy. For now, current practices are sufficient.

Modification of Article 6: Board has been amended to lengthen the term of office of board members from one to two years.

A summary of the proposed amendments to the Constitution is included below, along with their rationale. Note that members will vote on each set of amendments separately.
